Let us bring the museum to you with

our traveling suitcases!

Two fascinating presentations, each an hour in length, examine the lives of the earliest inhabitants in the Mahoning Valley: the Native Americans and the early Pioneer settlers. Each presentation includes numerous original and replicated hands-on artifacts for children to examine.

 Both presentations are:

·        Led by a professional museum educator who comes to your school

·        Designed to help educators supplement classroom teaching

·        Help students prepare for testing by using artifacts to understand the daily life and culture of two different eras of local residents

·        Available for scheduling year round

·        Adaptable for all ages.

4Native American Suitcase

      A museum educator presents hands-on artifacts relating to the culture, social structure, life and lore of the Eastern Woodland Indians who occupied the Mahoning Valley. Artifacts include:

·        Stone tools and hunting implements

·        Beaded clothing

·        Jewelry

·        Food and utensils

·        Games

·        Plant specimens

 

 4Pioneer Life Suitcase

A museum educator presents historical information and stories relating to the lives of the early pioneers who settled in the Mahoning Valley between 1796 and 1830. Artifacts include:

 

·        Maps

·        Household tools

·        Kitchen "appliances"

·        Lighting equipment

·        Toys

·        Clothing

 

 

 

 

 

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society educates and promotes an interest in the history of the Mahoning Valley by collecting, preserving, and developing material representative of the people who have inhabited the region.
