Fanyerose Gancfried Cullinan 

Fanyerose Gancfried was born April 7, 1908 the daughter of Lily Liebman and Harry R. Gancfried. Fanyerose was the maternal granddaughter of Youngstown’s first rabbi, Lippman Liebman. She graduated from Rayen School in 1925, attended Western Reserve University for two years and then Youngstown Law School. She was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1930. At that time, Fanyerose Gancfried was the youngest attorney in the Mahoning County Bar Association. In 1933, she served as the attorney for the District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.    

 

One of the first women lawyers in Youngstown, Fanyerose Gancfried Cullinan ran for judge of the Court of Common Pleas, Division of Domestic Relations in 1936 and for judge of the Court of Appeals of the Eleventh Appellate Court in 1968. She also worked at Home Owners’ Loan Corporation as their attorney and remained active in the Youngstown Business and Professional Women’s club which honored her in 1980 for fifty years in law.[1]
