Culture and Faith

The Jewish community in Youngstown has a variety of organizations and congregations through which the complexity of the Hebrew faith and culture are revealed. Though eternally linked, the faith and culture of Youngstown’s Jews has been divided on this page to better illustrate the scope of Jewish institutions in the city. The links under the heading of “Faith” are aimed at illuminating the various strands of Judaism within the community. The different congregations featured show the range of Orthodox and reform variations within the Jewish faith. The “Culture” portion focuses on the groups and organizations that strive to unit Jews, regardless of their ethnic and congregational differences.

The Jewish Archives contains a variety of material on the many synagogues of Youngstown and the surrounding area, including Warren. Some of the holdings include photographs, bulletins, and newspaper clippings. On Jewish cultural organizations, the archive has many of the bulletins, photographs, minutes, and donation records from groups like B’nai B’rith and Hadassah.
