WW II and the

Jews of Youngstown

As with other Jewish communities around the globe, World War II tried Youngstown’s Jews and their faith. The strong Jewish community saw its members band together for both the benefit of their comrades in Europe and on the home front. Many organizations, congregations, and individuals provided the necessary support for Jews to relocate to the United States, including moving to Youngstown, to escape the atrocities of Nazi Germany. The links featured here are a sampling of the war, its influence on Youngstown’s Jews, and those who served both their faith and the country.

The Jewish Archives contains materials on individual and group initiatives during WWII, including newspaper clippings and correspondence. The Collection’s volumes of the Youngstown Jewish Times from the war years also provide substantial insight into world events and Youngstown’s reaction.
